CGI of the first-of-its-kind Linwood site.

Our Linwood facility represents a monumental step forward in tyre recycling. As the first of its kind in the UK, this cutting-edge plant demonstrates SSH Recycling’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

In August 2024, the Scottish Government granted planning approval for the Linwood plant, a landmark decision which represents a pivotal moment in Scotland’s journey towards achieving a circular economy. The decision reflects SSH Recycling’s dedication to addressing the UK’s tyre waste challenge and commitment to Scotland’s sustainable future.

Spanning 4.47 hectares, the Linwood facility will process up to 100,000 tonnes of waste tyres annually. With extensive partnerships already in place, the plant will secure over one million commercial tyres and nearly four million passenger tyres each year, creating a consistent, high-volume recycling stream. This supply will be used to produce critical materials which will support industries ranging from construction to manufacturing.

Construction will begin in 2025, with full production expected to be achieved in 2027. The plant will create up to 80 jobs, including high-skilled scientific roles and apprenticeships, contributing to local employment and skills development.

Flood-Resilient Infrastructure

The Linwood facility has also been specially designed to address local environmental concerns. All processing equipment is built to a height of 2 meters, minimising risk and ensuring operational resilience. Meanwhile the buildings are designed to accommodate floodwater without displacing it elsewhere, ensuring no adverse effects upstream or downstream.

These thoughtful measures ensure that flooding will have no impact on the site or the surrounding area, setting a new standard for environmentally conscious industrial development.
